Madagascar, an environment to be discovered

he intertropical areas present an extremely varied environment, great forests get sparse ; we can also meet dry and hot deserts, snow-covered areas, wide grassy areas.

Altitudes in Madagascar are not too high, but snow has been observed certain years at Boby Peak (alt. 2658m) in the Andringitra Massif where the winter temperatures (May-September) frequently lower to - 10°C.

Diversity is met in the vegetation and the landscapes, from the thorny bushes of sub-arid Southern areas to the luxurious Eastern rain forests, but the Western dry forests, too, the mangroves, lakes and rivers, not forgetting the wide areas transformed by Man, sort of grassy deserts brighten up by the ricefields in the hollows of wet valleys.

The «natural» environments, those which have not been transformed by an's action, are weak and when the forests burn, the vegetation which grows back is poor, not much varied and the forest will be reconstituted but slowly...
